Founded by 2 former ex-inmates as a disruptive solution to pathways out of poverty and crime which continues to ravage our communities. We up-skill in marketable skills and create channels and opportunities for inclusive economy using technology to empower, advance and promote sustainable livelihoods. Our core business focuses on training female and male unemployed youth, teenage mothers, high school drop outs, ex-offenders and offenders in coding, design, soft skills as well as entrepreneurial skills to help them escape the grinding cycle of poverty and crime which characterizes so many of their lives.

Coding is an aspirational job skill, which is not only in high demand globally but is also well paid. We provide free training to the population groups that are in greatest need of such job skills - yet have the least access due to their marginalised situations - we hope to reduce inequality, poverty and criminal activity, and ignite technological revolutions in previously hopeless and unlikely places.

Quirky 30 is a Not for Profit Company and a Public Benefit Organisation with BEE Level 1 status, we align our work with the Framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Our digital skills training programme is addressing the high unemployment rate amongst youth - which can exceed 70% in these communities - who have little chance of securing jobs due to a mismatch between their skills - if any - and the job market. For our students in prison, or ex-offenders, the recidivism rate is estimated to be over 80% because inmates are released with totally inadequate skills to successfully reintegrate into the economy and society. This perpetuates the cycle of many social ills and leads to crime.

Our competitive edge!

Our training is superior because it is free, it is highly accessible, it is customised to the needs of our target beneficiaries in partnership with international communities and finally it is delivered by people who have similar backgrounds and therefore understand the hardships and challenges faced by our students.

Impact of innovation solution on social needs!

Quirky 30 NPC has developed a powerful, impactful model. We have a bold vision of turning impoverished communities and prisons from gangster-ridden crime hubs offering very few opportunities and hope into dynamic and vibrant tech hubs which can have a national and global impact. With appropriate resources, we can roll this out to directly change tens of thousands of lives. Indirectly, by showing that transformation is possible anyway, we can catalyse other powerful social innovations in the ecosystems where we work.

Business Model

We have a two-pronged approach to sustainability. The first, we have registered a full profit business named Quirky Innovations Pty as a revenue-generating arm to bring in income through development of projects done by our qualified coders - providing them with their first jobs, secondly since we since we train previously disadvaged youth in technology skills that are highly in demand globally, we look at partnering with potential hiring partners to contribute financially to the development of potential candidates/employees.
